The two-week formula is now well established, and on the side of both the Classics and Maxis, the enthusiasm of the owners, skippers and regattas is palpable. The small port of Varois is full and resonates with the accents of a good twenty nationalities, all motivated to the idea of perpetuating the beautiful hours of the Nioulargue.

Autumn Cup of the Yacht Club de France
The «rally» race between Cannes and Saint-Tropez really launches the Tropézienne fortnight on this Sunday, when 35 Classic sailing yachts burst into the gulf from the Royal Regattas of Cannes. Divided into 6 classes, these elegant sailing yachts have been competing for more than 30 years for the Coupe du Yacht Club de France. The opportunity to observe once again the clashes at the highest level between two 12 mJI France and French Kiss, or the confraternal confrontation of the three ClassP Chips, Olympian and Corinthian. The lack of wind in the Bay of Cannes forced the race committee to shorten the course, launching a start from the cardinal buoy «La Chrétienne», located some 19 miles from Saint-Tropez and the finish line wet under the Portalet. In the end it was Olympian who won in real time as in compensated time against his two rivals in the Auric Era. Victory in the Grand Classics, for two minutes against Comet. Palynodie II triumphs in compensated time against its real-time winner Sagitarius. Carron II is the winner of the day in Marconi. He leads Anne Sophie and One Wave. The 12 m J duel turns to France’s advantage over French Kiss. Finally, in the Tofinou, we recorded the victory of Team 42, against Circe and Pippa.

125 Modernes in the running from this Monday
Running in Saint-Tropez is a pleasure for a connoisseur. Winning there has a prestige that they will not be less than 125 skippers and their crews to fight hard this Monday. Divided into 5 groups the monohulls up to 18m28 designed or armed for the race will play big in Saint-Tropez. The North Sails Trophy rewards the best IRC B, which includes sailboats up to 60 feet, Swan 53, Grand Soleil 50, Baltic 50, First 53, etc. or some 20 pure racers who will offer all week long jousts at the highest level. We will observe with passion the IRC C, support of the BMW Trophy, which salutes here the sporting excellence and the technical performance of a group of 26 units, often dominated by the wonderful 52 feet. Nanoq, the TP 52 of the reigning Prince Frederick of Denmark, Daguet3 (Ker46), or Arobas2 (IRC 52) are once again expected on the Tropéziens podiums.
With 32 units registered, the Suzuki Trophy will have to find its winner among an IRC D group dense in quantity and quality. 26 boats will sail in IRC E, boats of a little less than 12 meters, while in IRC F (22 engaged) Tofinous, Code 1 and other Wally Nano, we will find particularly elegant sailing boats, inspired by the classic, day-boats combining luxury, comfort and performance. The games start tomorrow Monday at 11.

The Classics from Tuesday
82 classic yachts will join their auric or marconis sails on Tuesday to the kevlar of the Modern units. From the smallest, Dainty (Westmacott 1923) and its 8.20 m floating, to the largest, Shenandoah (Theodor&Ferris 1902) and its 55 meters, or to the oldest, Mad cap, launched in 1894, the unalterable elegance of the great hours of yachting will invade the body of water, for a magical ballet that no one gets tired of. Huge schooners, a superb fleet of yawls and other Marconi ketchs… Sails 2022 once again offer an astonishing review of the finest classic yachts.

In Brief:
Palynody II, the return!
It was Gaston Defferre, former Mayor of Marseille who, in 1961, ordered a marconi sloop at the New York Sparksman&Stephens yard. Launched in 1962 under the name of Palynodie II, this elegant sailboat typical of the work of the architect Olin Stephens was to celebrate its 60th anniversary this year. Las, an incident while the boat was dry, disrupted this celebration. Palynodie II, recovered from his misfortune today, was in top form heading to Saint-Tropez where he will be animating all week the pretty group of Marconi B Classics.

A pure blood named Yagiza
The Beneteau 53 Yagiza will be one of the attractions of the week in IRC B (North Sails Trophy). Brilliant last year for its first participation in Les Voiles, this high-end cruiser born from the design of architects Roberto Biscontini and Lorenzo Argento is made for the regatta. His confrontation with the Solaris and other Great Sun promises to be explosive.

Inauguration of the Village.
Another tangible sign of the start this fortnight Tropézienne out of time, the official inauguration of the village, conducted beating drum by the President of the Nautical Society of Saint-Tropez, Pierre Poinson, accompanied by the Mayor of Saint-TropezTropez, Sylvie Siri, as well as the deputy of the 4th constituency of the Var, Philippe Lottiaux, of Patrice de Colmont, former Presidents of the SNST André Beaufils and Tony Oller, in the presence of many sailors who came all day mooring their boats in the small port.

They said:
Pierre Poinson, President of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
A lot of news this year at Les Voiles, both on the water and ashore. On the regatta side, we are using for the first time these famous geopositioned autonomous beacons without impact on the seabed to delimit our courses, which are now open to multihulls in the second week. Novelties on land also with a redesigned village, bigger, brighter, better equipped for our partners. These are more faithful than ever, starting with the City of Saint-Tropez without which nothing would be possible. A great fortnight is ahead, which I hope will be joyful, sporty, filled with this spirit of conviviality and sharing that is unique to Les Voiles.”

Georges Korhel, Main race officer
For the third consecutive edition, Les Voiles will take place over two weeks. The first week will bring together 125 Modern sailing class in IRC, and 82 Classic yachts. If we add the 50 Maxis yachts of the second week, we find the participation figures of the great years of Les Voiles, but with a better readability of the races and visibility of the boats. I will not see myself going back, especially since the seats in the port are not increasing. So we’re using the right formula to fill the eyes of spectators.”

2022 Program
Week 1: Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, Moderne et Classiques
Monday 26 September: regattas for modern sailing boats
Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28, Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October: regattas for modern and traditional sailing boats
Thursday 29 September: Challenge Day, Club 55 cup, Centennial Regatta
Saturday, October 1: Awards ceremony (week 1)

Week 2: Maxi Yachts and Multihulls
Sunday 3 and Monday 4 October: Home of large modern units (Wally, Mini Maxis, Maxis, Super Maxis) and Performance Cruising Multihulls (from 60 feet)
Tuesday 4, Wednesday 5, Friday 7, Saturday 8: regattas
Thursday 6: lay day / Reserve day
Saturday, October 8: Awards Ceremony (Week 2)

Partners of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez
ROLEX
BMW
NORTH SAILS
WALLY
SUZUKI MARINE
MARSHALL
MERCANTOUR
BYBLOS
BESSERAT DE BELLEFON
TORPEZ (VIGNOBLES DE SAINT-TROPEZ)
BERNARD OPTIC
PEPINIERES PIERRE BASSET
ESPRIT VILLAGE A SAINT-TROPEZ

VILLE DE SAINT-TROPEZ
PORT DE SAINT-TROPEZ
LES MARINES DE COGOLIN
FEDERATION FRANCAISE DE VOILE
YACHT CLUB DE FRANCE
INTERNATIONAL MAXI ASSOCIATION

Organisation :
Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez
Président : Pierre Roinson
Principal Race Officer : Georges Korhel
Responsable Régates : Frédérique Fantino
Responsable technique : Philippe Martinez
Communication et Attachée de Direction : Chloé de Brouwer
Rédaction : Denis Van den Brink
Site internet : www.lesvoilesdesaint-tropez.fr
Media site : www.snst-media.com/
Facebook : les Voiles de Saint-Tropez Officiel www.facebook.com/VoilesDeSaintTropezOfficiel
Twitter : @VoilesSTOrg
Instagram : les_voiles_de_saint_tropez https://www.instagram.com/les_voiles_de_saint_tropez/

Photo
SNST/Gilles Martin-Raget
Vidéo
SNST/Guilain Grenier, 6G

Relations Presse :
Maguelonne Turcat

A new breath propels Les Voiles! – Hors d’oeuvre des Voiles, 35 Classics from Cannes – From tomorrow, the sport and the 135 modern sailing boats – A renewed classic fleet starting Tuesday in the Gulf.
